OUR STORY

Passionately crafting unforgettable experiences for every occasion

THE
MARSON FAMILY

We are Richard and Laura Marson, a husband and wife team behind Tern Hill Hall. Together with our young family we involve ourselves in every aspect of running the Hall and the events that we host here.

Richard and his Family became the new owners of the Hall at the end of 2011 and have since breathed new life into it with a sympathetic refurbishment of the existing Hall and by adding a contemporary Ballroom and Orangery building.

We delight in being at the forefront of all that we do here at the Hall and creating special and personalised events for our customers to remember.

OUR TEAM

We are incredibly proud of all of our staff here at Tern Hill Hall. Our team share our ethos of showing genuine and attentive care to our customers and going above and beyond in their everyday duties to give you the best possible experience.

It takes an unbelievable amount of work and dedication both behind the scenes and on the day to run our weddings and events, and we proudly credit each member of our team for making them a success.

None of what we do would be possible without a fantastic team standing alongside us.

HISTORY OF TERN HILL HALL

The Hall was built in 1911 by Colonel Charles Coghill and his wife Charlotte as their private residence. Charlotte was the daughter of John & Ann Tayleur of the Buntingsdale Hall Estate only a few miles away from us. As Colonel of the Royal Artillery in the First World War he was well decorated for his efforts in the war.

We were lucky enough to make contact with Coghill’s Grandaughter who recalled some wonderful stories including that of the stiff, Victorian-like Butler who rang the dinner gong like clockwork and refused to serve if you sat too late! After looking into census records it was clear that it took an enormous team of cooks, a chauffeur, a groomsman, nanny, and butler amongst others to maintain the upkeep of the Hall- much like it does today.

After the death of Charles Coghill in 1948 it is believed the Hall first became a hotel.
