A Country House Wedding Near Telford

Many Telford couples tell us they want the feel of a country house wedding without asking guests to travel far. Tern Hill Hall sits in the north Shropshire countryside near Market Drayton, surrounded by gardens and open fields, yet it’s an easy drive from Wellington, Newport and the rest of Telford and Wrekin.

On your wedding day, the hall and grounds are reserved just for you from 12pm. There are no other weddings, no shared bars and no strangers in the background of your photos. Just your families, your friends and a house that feels like your own.

A Historic Wedding Venue With a Love Story

Tern Hill Hall was built in 1911 for Colonel Coghill and his wife, and is believed to have been a wedding present from her family. More than a century later, it’s still a place where married life begins.

After years as a hotel, the hall was bought by the Marson family in 2011, who spent six years carefully restoring it. They kept its Edwardian character and original features, then added the Ballroom and Orangery in 2014, creating spaces for larger celebrations alongside the period rooms. Today it’s still family-run, which is why every couple gets the same personal welcome.

Civil ceremonies start from 1pm, or from 3pm for a twilight wedding. Prefer a church wedding? There are beautiful churches nearby, and many couples marry locally before joining us for the reception.

Some real exotica: an Atom, Ferrari, Lambos, Aston old and new, Bags, modern classics, all very pretty. Nice nosh and drinks. £2.50 entrance plus 50 pence to the Nidlands Air Ambulance, a donation to the air ambulance for hot drinks (suggested £1:50 each). Great vfm.

Wedding Receptions for Telford Couples

Married at a Telford church or register office? Tern Hill Hall is a relaxed, elegant wedding reception venue for the celebration that follows. Enjoy drinks on the lawns, a wedding breakfast in the Orangery and a party in the Ballroom, with space for up to 240 evening guests.

If you’re only planning an evening do, our evening reception options include sourdough pizza, smash burgers and BBQ, with your own DJ or band welcome until midnight.

Tern Hill Hall is around 15 miles, or 25 minutes, from Telford. The hall sits where the A41 and A53 meet at Tern Hill, so it’s a straightforward drive from Wellington, Newport and the rest of Telford and Wrekin.

Giving Notice if You Live in Telford
